(Newswire.net — December 16, 2014) Thomson, Illinois — The executive director of the Illinois Family Institute has endorsed a new children’s audio drama that tells the story of William Wallace because, he says, “our children need great Christian stories like this.”
In a video message, David E. Smith noted that many people who watched the movie Braveheart likely didn’t realize that “Scotland’s epic battle for freedom included Christian heroes.” Braveheart was loosely based on Wallace’s heroics, but the new audio drama, In Freedom’s Cause, tells the true Christian story that the 1990s movie hit did not.
In Freedom’s Cause is the second release from Heirloom Audio Productions, which produces audio dramas based on real people, all with the goal of telling the “rest of the story” and putting Christ back into history.
“In Freedom’s Cause is an audio drama that re-tells the story as written by G.A. Henty,” Smith said. “Henty is a master of historical fiction. Each story has a rare blend that offers detailed history and a hero of admirable character. In Freedom’s Cause is new, inspiring and educational. Our children need great Christian stories like this. This would make a great Christmas present. Join the cause.”
In Freedom’s Cause follows a boy, Ned, as he watches history unfold and tags along with Wallace and the eventual king of Scotland, Robert the Bruce, in their fight for Scottish freedom.
Heirloom Audio Productions released its first project, Under Drake’s Flag, last year.
The CDs are based on Henty books and recorded in the same genre of Adventures In Odyssey. In fact, some crew members from that Focus on the Family production worked with Heirloom Audio.
Actress Chris Anthony – who hosted Adventures In Odyssey on radio – was impressed.
“I haven’t been this excited since the beginning of Adventures In Odyssey,” Anthony said.
Each 2-CD set is accompanied by a study guide and discussion starter.
They have received high marks from homeschooling expert and curriculum reviewer Cathy Duffy.
“While other publishers have created outstanding audio recordings, both abridged and unabridged, the new presentations from Heirloom Audio are really something special,” Duffy wrote. “The script writers, the sound engineer, the actors, the creator of the musical score, and others involved in making these productions have been involved in major, critically-acclaimed productions, and their expertise shows! These are really top-notch, audio theater experiences as well as an entertaining way to learn some history.”
