(Newswire.net — January 13, 2015) Thomson, Illinois — Textbooks have been sanitized of Christianity, forcing parents to work harder to tell their children the true story of history’s heroes, author and audio theater producer Bill Heid said during a radio interview on WWIP 89.1.

“If a man or a woman had a great faith, by the time our kids learn about them, it’s been turned on its head and you don’t hear anything about it,” Heid told host Colleen Dick Jan. 5.

Heid is the executive producer of a new audio theater project, In Freedom’s Cause, that tells the true faith story of Scottish hero William Wallace (1270-1305) that the movie hit Braveheart left out. Heid’s first audio theater project, Under Drake’s Flag, recounted the adventures of Sir Francis Drake (c. 1540-1596), who was the first Englishman to circle the globe.

“We wanted to find real heroes and put Christianity back into the story,” Heid said.

WWIP is broadcast out of Chesapeake, Va.

In Freedom’s Cause follows a boy, Ned, as he watches history unfold and tags along with Wallace and the eventual king of Scotland, Robert the Bruce, as they fight for freedom from the British. Braveheart was loosely based on Wallace’s story and even included several discrepancies.

It stars Skandar Keynes (Edmund of The Chronicles of Narnia series), Billy Boyd (Pippin of The Lord Of The Rings), James Cosmo (Campbell, Father Christmas of Braveheart and The Chronicles of Narnia, respectively), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates of Downton Abbey) and Brian Blessed (Boss Nass and Clayton in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Tarzan, respectively).

Some of the audio in the 2-CD set was recorded in Scotland – even in buildings where Wallace walked.

Audio theater, Heid said, engages a child’s imagination in ways that television does not.

“It gets their imagination juices flowing and gets them immersed in Christian history,” he said.

The CDs are based on G.A. Henty books and recorded in the same genre of Adventures In Odyssey. They have been very popular with homeschool families.
