(Newswire.net — January 23, 2015)  — Oshawa, On — Dr. Christine Ordanis, a naturopath in Oshawa, Ontario, has a simple message for those who want to maximize the health benefits of the nutritious foods they consume: know the interactions. “Eating the wrong foods at the wrong times can cancel the health benefits to be derived from these foods,” says Dr. Ordanis, who advocates proper eating as a central pillar of good health.

While Dr. Ordanis agrees that there are some benefit to consuming certain foods together, she also states that consuming some foods together may have unexpected consequences.  “Iron can be blocked by calcium, so if you need to take iron or you want to get more iron then don’t have that with milk or a high-calcium containing food because they compete with one another. Zinc and copper can compete with one another.” Education on proper eating and nutrition is paramount to good health.

According to Dr. Ordanis, learning about possible interactions can help those who want to improve their health through better diet.  “I think in general you will have more energy, and you’ll likely have better mood as well, when you eat properly.  Our hormones tend to be more in balance if we are eating properly for our body. As age-related degeneration depends in large part on bone density, muscle mass and thought processes, eating properly can have a tremendous impact on quality of life.  In addition, weight management is a huge bonus to eating properly.”

By eating right and exercising regularly, Dr. Ordanis believes that individuals can put off “inevitable” aging problems and live longer, fuller and happier lives.
