(Newswire.net — February 22, 2015) — Google made a mobile YouTube application for kids that is free of explicit and violent content. The new ‘YouTube Kids’ is a child-friendly version of the video sharing site that will make many parents happy.
Web giant Google said that the app ‘YouTube Kids’ will be available for download for Android devices from Google App’s on February 23.
With this android application, parents can be sure that their children interact with online content perfectly safe for children. According to Google, “YouTube Kids excludes access to the viewer-generated comment section, and only allows links to pre-approved, kid-friendly content”, the USA Today reported.
“Parents were constantly asking us, can you make YouTube a better place for our kids,” Shimrit Ben-Yair, the project’s group product manager, told a USA Today reporter.
”(Year after year) we’ve seen a 50 percent growth in viewing time on YouTube, but for our family entertainment channels, it’s more like 200 percent.”
Reportedly, a study undertaken in 2003 by Common Sense Media, found that nearly one-third of American toddlers use mobile media.
In addition, the researchers found that the percent of children who use mobile devices on a daily basis – at least once a day or more – has more than doubled, from 8 percent to 17 percent.
According to the USA Today, ‘YouTube Kids’ will provide an option for children to tap any of five icons on the program’s main screen, which then will allow kids to access television programs, a non-offensive internet radio station, educational clips and a category of specially selected top videos.
The app provides instant access to content produced by Jim Henson TV, DreamWorks, National Geographic and a wide range of high-profile YouTubers for kids.
“The images and icons are big as and are great for small fingers, and since most younger children can’t type they can search with voice,” Ben-Yair explained.
Details about a possible Apple version for the Android’s top mobile competitor, the iPhone, have not yet been made available.
The YouTube Kids app is made for Android mobile platforms. The app will be soon released for Windows mobile platform as well.
