(Newswire.net — April 24, 2015) Brockton, MA Old Colony Elder Services (OCES), the Brockton based regional agency that serves older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout the greater Brockton and Plymouth county area, commemorated National Social Work Month with a special ceremony.

Each year in March, National Social Work Month recognizes social workers for all they do in bringing about major positive social change and improving the lives of families and individuals.

“Social Work Paves the Way for Change” is the National Association of Social Workers’ theme this year. During a special ceremony held March 19th, OCES acknowledged all employees who provide social work services and defend the rights of all individuals in the community.  OCES’ Cultural Competency Committee unveiled a newly created Welcoming Statement Plaque at this ceremony which reads “OCES aspires to welcome everyone without exception”.

“Social workers strive to make a positive difference in the day-to-day lives of individuals, and they work to bring social injustices to the forefront.  National Social Work Month highlights that social workers are absolutely essential,” noted Diana DiGiorgi, Executive Director of OCES.
