(Newswire.net — June 10, 2015) New York, NY –Thor Halvorssen Mendoza has spent many years working to protect the rights of people across the world and to prevent government or individual intrusion into other’s lives. His Human Rights Foundation or HRF was based on the principles of the 1976 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights or ICCPR, which protects basic human rights such as the right to life and the prevention of torture.

“I know firsthand, from the experiences of my parents, what happens when human rights are violated,” says Halvorssen, on the web at https://www.facebook.com/thor.halvorssen.3. His parents were both victims of human rights violations, with his father imprisoned and his mother shot at a political protest. “It has become very important to me, as CEO of the Human Rights Foundation, to prevent violations of human rights whenever possible, both due to my own experiences and those of others we have helped over the years.”

According to Halvorssen, on the web at https://plus.google.com/u/1/109739096187391175223/posts and http://ask.fm/ThorHalvorssen, the Human Rights Foundation is based on the tenets of the ICCPR because they best reflect the overall mission of the organization. “The ICCPR, as written by the United Nations, summarizes the basic human rights we all hold to be important,” notes Halvorssen. “Therefore, this document has become our guiding principle and helps us clarify the missions we undertake in human rights advocacy.” For more information, see the website.
