(Newswire.net — August 4, 2015) Bryan, TEXAS –An award-winning mechanical contractor for the region, Garrett Mechanical, Inc. (GMI) has announced the state has assigned the company an Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of .66 for 2015/2016. The EMR is important because insurance companies use it to determine past and future risk. A higher number will increase the workers compensation premium, while a lower EMR means the premium will be less. Garrett Mechanical is dedicated to excellence in construction in industry, commerce, and health care.

The EMR is calculated in part through industry averages. The National Council of Compensation Insurance takes payroll, frequency and severity of losses or claims, and other factors into account to calculate an industry average. Companies with a number higher than 1.00 are considered a greater risk than the average business in a given industry. For companies like GMI, a number lower than that indicates a lower risk and a business with fewer workers compensation claims.

Functioning somewhat like a credit history, the number can be raised or lowered. It can come down if the company doesn’t have losses or injuries, but this takes three to four years. Given GMI handles highly technical projects, the company is proud to announce its latest assigned rating from the state of Texas.

Larry Garrett, Vice President of Garrett Mechanical, said, “The EMR of .66 is a bonus for us and our workers, but an indication to customers that we excel at every project we take on. GMI not only understands mechanical contracting. It has a track record to prove anything is possible.”

The full service contractor since 1988 has completed successful service at general construction job sites. It has also competed large-scale projects at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, while some of its 250 highly trained workers helped improve and expand the University of Texas Health Science Center.

GMI handles sheet metal work, piping, and plumbing among other aspects of mechanical contracting. It handles site utilities for any project as well. No sub-contractors are called on; the company relies on a trained workforce, coordination, and on-the-job communication to complete projects safely, on-time, and on-budget. These qualities help to maintain its perfect track record.
