Forbes Riley Interviewed on Influencers Radio

“I live my life to the fullest, and I made my own rules,” she said when asked about her eclectic career.  “I know many people who have taken a job right out of college and are bored, but my entire business plan for the last 30 years has been ‘I better get going.'”  Riley described her childhood and young adulthood when, she says, she was never told that she should follow a set path.  Instead, she made her own way, doing what she felt she should do to further her career goals and pursue her own interests.

“I believe that most people simply do not dream big enough,” she said.  “My motto that is engraved in my makeup counter at the studio is “Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It.’ You have to ask yourself if the word ‘no’ means ‘stop’ or ‘go’ to you.  I redefine ‘no’ as ‘Neverending Opportunity.'”

According to Riley, those who are not daring enough or bold enough will always say “no” because they do not know what else to say.  It is important for those who want to start a business or create a product must be prepared to succeed in spite of those who say “no.”

She also discussed a successful sales pitch and what makes people buy products.  “No one seems to teach pitching, but it is crucial in successful sales.  I grossed $2 billion in sales in the last 25 years with 142 infomercials and other specials.  I use a step-by-step systematic approach to pitching.  A pitch is a one-sided conversation whose sole purpose is to elicit a positive response, not to sell something.  Selling comes later.”
