(Newswire.net — August 8, 2015) — A young man from Texas appeared before a judge for hitting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend twice in the jaw.
Josten Bundy, 20 and his 19-year-old girlfriend Elizabeth Jaynes, wanted to marry, however, they didn’t expect to do so under pressure from the court and so soon.
Although there was only Josten Bundy on trial, Judge Randall Rogers of Smith County, Texas, sentenced couple to be married within 30 days and meanwhile to copy Bible passages. The alternative is 15 days in prison, which is the option young Bundy want to avoid since he’ll lose the job.
According to court documents, Josten Bundy punched Elizabeth’s ex-boyfriend twice in the jaw for being insulting to Jaynes, calling her names.
The Judge Rogers ruling was the result of a court case from February over when Bundy punched Jaynes’ ex-boyfriend twice in the jaw for being insulting to Jaynes. The attack happened in February this year.
Reportedly, Judge Rogers asked Bundy during the sentencing whether it was worth it.
“I said, well to be honest, sir, I was raised with four sisters, and if any man was talking to a woman like that, I’d probably do the same thing,” Bundy told KLTV News.
The couple was together for six months prior to the court sentencing, and was planning to get married eventually. According to the Judge ruling, they applied for a marriage license.
With just 30 days to organize a wedding, most of the bride and groom’s family members were unable to attend because of the short notice.
“It just felt like we weren’t going to be able to have the wedding we wanted,” Jaynes told KLTV. “It was just going to be kind of pieced together, I didn’t even have a white dress.”
In a related story about strange rulings, a Michigan judge jailed children for contempt of court after they refused to have a relationship with their father, ordered by judge. Children explained they witnessed their father abuse their mother and refused to have a lunch with him.
Eventually, Oakland County Family Court Judge Lisa Gorcyca released the children from the county juvenile detention facility and sent them to a summer camp.
