Seeking Help To Free An Amazing Woman

(Newswire.net — August 27, 2015) –Hawaii resident, Pauline Victoria Aughe is an amazing woman, who needs our help. Born August 10, 1975, limbless, Aughe has faced a lifetime of overcoming challenges.

Upon first encountering Aughe people are curious about how she lives her life. Soon curiosity turns to admiration – not for how she lives, but for the way in which she lives.

As a college graduate, wife, mother, public speaker, and active advocate for the disability community through her membership on the boards of Full Life and Aloha Independent Living Hawaii and member of both Hawaii County Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities and the Governor’s Disability Communication Access Board, Aughe impacts people as they interact with and watch her live her busy life with confidence, pride, and faith.

Aughe’s visible disabilities and example of overcoming challenges offer others the opportunity to reflect upon their own invisible obstacles that stop them from truly living a life they desire. She is a living example of how we are not victims of our circumstances but are truly able to rise above challenges, limitations, and circumstances.

Her most recent obstacle challenges her freedom, which comes from a tailor-made computerized van which she drives. The van she has now is broken and cannot be fixed.
When the computer system in the van began to malfunction this past November Aughe was surprised to learn the company that customized the vehicle had instituted a policy which prohibits replacing or repairing any parts in the primary driving system if the system is over 10 years old.

Aughe responds, “I was disappointed to learn of this policy since we certainly would have been saving over the years to prepare for this situation. I’ve done research for grants or funding options for adults with disabilities and could only find low interest rate loan programs.”

A Go Fund Me Campaign titled, “Freedom Van for Pauline” launched May 30 and aims to raise the $150,000 for a new van. Gaining traction the campaign is already over $11,000.

With her signature positive attitude, Aughe remarks, “Facing obstacles head on is not foreign to me. Just like anything else I’ve accomplished in my life, I believe in the age-old cliche, ‘If there’s a will, there’s a way.’

Going through this process has been frustrating, but it also has been enlightening. It has helped me appreciate the years I experienced freedom and it has helped me understand the lack of resources for people with disabilities to live life fully. This has prompted me to start the Pauline Victoria Foundation to help people with disabilities access the resources they need to live their life to the fullest. Once the van is funded, my next step will be to launch this non-profit for the benefit of others facing challenges like I’m in right now..

I believe the van is the impetus to bring together a larger community that believes that every person is valuable. This community upholds the belief that when each individual is able to fully achieve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we all win.
I’ve changed what people believe is possible in our community simply by being a part of it.”
