In local event news, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the ‘active’ nationwide nonprofit charity known as myTEAM TRIUMPH will be participating in this year’s Cherry Creek Schools Fitness Festival 5k run. The exciting race will take place on Saturday, September 12th at the well-kept Cherry Creek High School campus in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

This is an annual event and is just one of the many that myTEAM Triumph proudly participates in throughout the year. The main activity of the day will be a 5K Run/Walk that starts and ends at the Stutler Bowl on the Cherry Creek campus. In addition, there will also be a 1k Family Fun Run, and the activities are going to be followed by an engaging after party. So, the event should prove to be fit fun for everyone who attends, thereby living up to its name.

Last years event was indeed a big success. Thanks to everyone involved including the generous sponsors, caring volunteers, and dedicated school team coordinators, 2014 was actually a record year for the Fitness Festival. In fact, they had over 3,400 attendees from across the state of Colorado and even beyond.

The myTEAM TRIUMPH charity has been operating since 2007 and was founded by Ronald Robb. The nonprofit organization has expanded since then and they now have several chapters located across the country. It is an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. Furthermore, the Rocky Mountain Chapter was started in 2010 and has been going and growing at a steady pace.

The charity’s stated mission is “To enhance the health and well being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics.” So, that’s precisely what they’re doing when supporting and participating in events like this one. Three capable Captains will be representing myTEAM TRIUMPH in this year’s 5k. Their names are Elizabeth, Lauren, and Savannah, and they’ll be racing with cross-country teams from Cherokee Trail and Cherry Creek.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of myTEAM also recently competed in the annual Pancakes for PDCD at DeKoevend Park on August 22, 2015. In fact, they fared rather well at that event, as the same three Captains, Elizabeth, Lauren, and Savannah all triumphed. Savannah’s team actually finished ahead of everyone in the race. The victory was also partly due to many new angels that joined some of the veterans on the course.

The way the program works is that competitors with disabilities are known as “Captains”, and the athletes who have the honor of pushing and pulling the Captains on the course are called their “Angels”. The Rocky Mountain chapter of myTEAM is always looking for new people to join them, and of course contributions are greatly appreciated. Especially because they provide all the equipment that’s needed for the Captains to be able to participate, including boats and harnesses for swimming activities, trailers for the bike, chairs for the run, and more…

This event encourages a healthy lifestyle and the proceeds they receive support the Community Asset Program in partnership with the Cherry Creek Schools. Plus, remember to watch out for the final event of 2015 for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of myTEAM Triumph, which will be the magnificent Denver Rock and Roll Half Marathon on October 18th.
