(Newswire.net — September 23, 2015) National Harbor, MD — XLNTbrain, LLC., is being implemented by the 2015 U.S. Men’s Indoor National Lacrosse Team after showing Adam Thomas, head athletic trainer, the advantages of its mobile concussion protocol system during last season with the the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team Boston Cannons.
“I used XLNTbrain Sport™ last season with the Cannons to see if it was something I could recommend,” said Thomas, who is recently departing as Assistant Clinical Professor at Northeastern University to join the Boston Red Sox as a physical therapist. “I really liked the education piece built into the program for the athletes…But it (XLNTbrain) was great because I work with athletes remotely, and they could complete their testing from home.”
Team USA is currently competing for Gold in the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. In the 2011 games played in Prague, Czech Republic, Team USA finished with Bronze, behind Iroquois with Silver, and Canada with Gold. Team USA earned the bronze medal 2003 and 2007 as well.
Thomas said the mobile platform for concussion education, testing, and reporting allows him to quickly, conveniently implement two important keys to the comprehensive protocol in the XLNTbrain Sport toolbox.
“We got (the athletes) the education, and we got their baseline tests, which are great starting points,” Thomas said. “Now I can monitor their concussion-related scores throughout our time together. This information helps me make an informed, clinical decisions about returning the player to the field, as fast as possible and safe as possible.”
The online-based sports concussion management program was designed by acclaimed neurologist Harry Kerasidis, MD. Dr. Kerasidis said XLNTbrain’s comprehensive, fully-integrated service includes several unique tools which distinguish it from other concussion protocols. Features include:
- Video education that requires taking a quiz to acknowledge understanding
- Neuro-cognitive baseline testing that includes an emotional reactivity component
- Balance testing at baseline, time of injury, and through recovery
- Smartphone mobile sideline assessment app
- Return-to-play recovery protocol
- Automated reporting to designated medical personnel
