(Newswire.net — September 29, 2015) Portland, Oregon — SB Alexander, New Adult Romance Author, breaks down gender barriers for girls and dares to dream that females can play baseball in her book, Dare to Kiss, which claimed the #1 bestseller spot in Amazon UK’s sports fiction category, and has attracted readers from all over the world.

In today’s society, girls are slowly breaking into the game of baseball. Take for instance, pitching sensation, Mo’ne Davis who made the cover of Sports Illustrated. She’s the first girl to throw a shutout at the Little League World Series in 2014, or teenage knuckleballer, Chelsea Baker who made the news in early 2014 when she threw batting practice to the Tampa Bay Rays. She also became the first female in Hillsborough County, FL to make the varsity baseball team at Durant High School.

“I’d give anything to turn back the clock to be part of the exciting times ahead for women in baseball,” SB Alexander said.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, there were 1,203 girls playing high school baseball in 2014-15.  That statistics are up from 1,066 in 2013-14. Even the number of high schools where girls play baseball has increased from 216 in 2013 to 260 in 2014. The numbers are promising, but there’s a long road ahead. While the number of girls in high school baseball has increased, only a small group of women go on to play at the collegiate level.  There are many reasons the numbers drop off from high school to college. One reason girls might not be tempted to continue in the sport might stem from not being treated as a teammate by the opposite sex.

“Growing up, I didn’t have the opportunity to ignore the whispers: ‘You’re a girl, you can’t play with boys.’ I was shutout from playing no matter how hard I tried to get accepted,” SB Alexander said.

For college pitcher, Ghazaleh Sailors, she knows first hand. According to an article in the Boston Globe, at the first high school Sailors attended, she says, “abuse from every aspect you can imagine, bullying, harassment, things got physical, things got out of control.” The bullying came from her teammates. She adds, “the boys kind of scared me out of telling anyone.”

Dare to Kiss by SB AlexanderIn Dare to Kiss, SB Alexander, portrays a girl, who struggles to over come bullying from the captain of the high school baseball team. He tries hard to thwart Lacey’s efforts in making team. Like Sailors, Baker and Davis, baseball is Lacey’s life, and like the women mentioned in this article, Lacey fights hard to break through the barriers.

“Baseball has always been a passion for mine. Even though I couldn’t play back when I was growing up, I want to show readers through Lacey’s challenges, that women sometimes have to fight harder than their male counterpart.”

To find out more about how Lacey Robinson, and her journey to overcome her own challenges to play high school baseball, pick up Dare to Kiss at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes or Kobo.
