(Newswire.net — October 27, 2015) — According to latest World Health Organization (WHO) report, bacon, ham and sausages are as much health hazard and just as much a cause of cancer as asbestos, alcohol, arsenic and tobacco, the Guardian reported.

Scientists found enough evidence to link processed meat with colorectal cancer in a percentage that puts this food in group 1A, the WHO report reads. The report claims that red meat is in group 2A, which means “probably carcinogenic to humans”.

International Cancer Research Agency, IARC has found that each 50-gram (1.8-ounce) portion of processed meat consumed daily increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.

According to Dr Kurt Straif, the head of the IARC monographs program, the risk for an individual to develop a colorectal cancer while consuming meat remains small, but this risk increases with the amount of meat consumed.

“In view of the large number of people who consume processed meat, the global impact on cancer incidence is of public health importance,” said ” Dr Straif.

Though welcomed by cancer researchers, the decision aggravated the meat industry. Soon after the WHO report was released, other scientists funded by meat selling corporations rejected any comparison between cigarettes and meat.

The report sparked an avalanche of responses from people who just want to enjoy life as it is, without everyday health-hazard paranoia.

“The IARC says you can enjoy yoga class but don’t breath the air (class 1 carcinogen), sit near a sun-filled window (class 1), apply aloe vera (class 2B) if you get a sun burn, drink wine or coffee (class 1 and class 2B), or eat grilled food (class 2A). And if you are hairdresser and do shift work (both class 2A) you should seek a new carrier,” tweeted Matthew Trumbell, a technician interested in food.

“What’s the point of living in a world where bacon causes cancer,” tweeted one aggravated meat consumer. Others agree, tweeting that we are now ready for apocalypse. One ‘hero’ tweeted that he volunteers to eat all the bacon in the world and save the human kind.

The meat industry can relax because more people are more willing to give up science than bacon and sausages.

“Everyone devastated to learn that bacon causes cancer…except the Muslims, whose God helpfully gave them a heads up on this one,” one tweet reads. However, Muslims eat processed meat too.
