Ice Cream Headaches or a I Scream Headaches

(Newswire.net — November 6, 2015) Darien, CT — Surely you have experienced a brain freeze or an ice cream headache, if not you probably know what I am describing. What is really interesting is that there is a nerve bundle that initiates an ice cream headache and this could be the the key that unlocks the mystery of migraine headaches.

There is a nerve bundle called the sphenopalantine ganglion. It sits behind the nose. You can see it’s approximate location in the X-ray provided. When the sphenopalantine ganglion is stimulated with a laser beam there seems to be a vasodilation response that relaxes the small arterioles (tiny blood vessels) surrounding the ganglion by stimulating production of nitric oxide. with less restriction the nerve stimulus proceeds to the trigemenial nerve which in turn relaxes the covering of the brain called the meninges. Here is where the decrease in pressure can offer the headache sufferer significant relief.

The real benefit is that there are no side effects from the use of light. Quite often migraines do not respond to medication. Some headache sufferers take several medications and get no relief. Here is the opportunity to get significant relief and more importantly answers as to where do migraine headaches come from. There still is no conclusive evidence as to the origin of headaches. While research is needed to further this anecdotal finding. In the meantime we will continue to offer the treatment. The patients seem to be responsive and the results are often immediate.

This does not mean everyone with migraines will respond. What I have seen personally has been amazing. The fact that laser therapy does not allow for Big Pharma to profit , they will not fund studies to prove this hypothesis.
