(Newswire.net — November 17, 2015) — Philadelphia, US- A transgender man, who had been on hormonal therapy for many years, taking testosterone jabs which would help him prepare for a double mastectomy, at one point started gaining considerable amount of weight. Thinking it was a side-effect of the drugs he had been taking, he decided to workout more in order to improve his shape. The workout did not seem to have any effect and he did not manage to lose any weight. In the end, it turned out he was pregnant!
Kayden Coleman, now 29, was initialy stunned by his bloated stomach and back pain in 2013. Still thinking it was the consequence of taking hormones, he did not pay any attention to the pain at first, but as it kept recurring, he started joking with his partner that he should take a pregnancy test and confirm his suspicions regarding his weight.
Eventually, even though the very idea of pregnancy was quite bizzare and unbelievable, he went to the clinic to share his suspicions. After the doctors had comfirmed that he was 21 weeks pregnant, the couple who started dating in 2012 and live in Philadelphia, decided to get married and try to get ready for the unexpected member of the family.
“I never thought about getting pregnant. Because of the male hormones, I didn’t think it was a possibility. It was definitely a surprise,” he told the New York Daily News.
Although what happened was so far and beyond his wildest imagination that it took considerable time to process, they were busy figuring out how they could make things work in the following 19 weeks he had to his term.
“It felt like there was a pillow under my stomach but there was no pillow,” he added.
Mr Coleman’s pregnancy appears to have gone largely unnoticed outside their family. Obviously, nobody thought it was possible and thus attributed his weight to hormones and overeating.
There was a woman in a shop who jokingly told him he looked as if he was pregnant. To his delight, he told her he was pregnant indeed, but she laughed and did not take him seriously.
Ultimately, he gave birth to a baby daughter Azaelia, now 22 months old. Mr Coleman said she is amazing and they cannot imagine life without her.
