(Newswire.net — December 1, 2015) Vista, CA — Original Watermen continues to pay homage to some of the most respected watermen in history with a line of clothing designed for high performance and durability. Over the years, the company has produced clothing of world-class quality at affordable prices, with clothes and accessories ideally suited to meet the demands of the marine/coastal lifestyle.
Founded by Ken Miller in 1978, Original Watermen made its mark on the active wear industry early on. Even back when the “company” was little more than Ken himself making and selling boardshorts out of the back of a van, there was a strict adherence to the highest standards that resulted in products of superior quality and performance. Over time, the company’s reputation for quality and excellence grew, and Ken’s fledgling firm soon became one of the most recognizable brands in the casual and athletic clothing industries. Much of the success of the company could be attributed to Ken’s lifelong passion for water sports and all kinds of water-related activities. But what really served as the primary motivator for Ken–and the subsequent success of his company–was the collective exploits of the many legendary watermen throughout history, each of whom made his own unique and individual contributions in his respective fields. These larger-than-life figures included Duke Kahanamoku, Laird Hamilton, Jacques Mayol, and Adolph Gustav “Sonny Boy” Kiefer. Duke Kahanamoku is widely regarded as the father of modern surfing. A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Duke was an Olympic gold medal swimmer who achieved considerable acclaim not only for his amazing surfing skills, but also for his grace and sportsmanship in and out of the water.
Laird Hamilton is considered one of the most accomplished and most versatile watermen in the world. A gifted surfer and athlete with almost supernatural talent, Laird also achieved success as a model and as a TV host. Even with his many accomplishments, it is as a big wave surfer that Laird has made the most significant impact. Jacques Mayol is unarguably the most accomplished free diver in history. The first human to reach a depth of 100 meters, Jacques employed a combination of sheer physical capability and meditation techniques in racking up an impressive array of free diving feats. At the age of 56, he set the world record for free diving on a single depth, reaching an astounding 347 feet. Check the designs here: https://www.originalwatermen.com
Adolph Gustav “Sonny Boy” Kiefer may not be as widely-recognized as the others, but he is a legendary waterman all the same. A swimmer of unparalleled skill and physical capability, Adolph set a record for swimming the backstroke a distance of 100 yards backstroke in less than a minute–an especially impressive feat considering he was only 16 years old at the time.
