In its more than 15 years as an art dealership, Diva has achieved considerable renown for hosting only the finest works from some of the best up-and-coming artists in the world at value prices. Despite the affordability of their pieces, the company maintains its commitment to high-quality and world-class service. This is the goal upon which the company was founded, and it strives to achieve this goal with each and every piece of art added to its collection.
The most recent addition to the Diva roster is the collected works of the renowned Russian artist Erte, who himself has achieved significant acclaim for his considerable accomplishments in painting, sculpture, and set/costume design. Born Remain de Tirtoff in St. Petersburg in 1892, the artist adopted the name “Erte” from the French pronunciation of the initials of his name. With a prolific career that lasted nearly 80 years, Erte was one of the most influential figures in 20th century style and design.
The distinctive Art Deco style for which Erte would become known throughout most of his life first emerged during his early 20s, when he began working for Harper’s Bazaar. He would continue working in the noted magazine for more than 20 years, creating covers as well as illustrations for the inside pages. All told, he would design more than 250 covers and countless drawings for the magazine, while engaging in other artistic endeavors.
In the years after his stint at Harper’s and after a short spell in Hollywood (where he worked on the set design for the film Ben Hur), Erte began making sets and costumes for theater and opera productions. It was then that his early forays into Art Deco took full shape, and he would continue to work in the same capacity for the next four decades of his professional life.
With the addition of Erte’s works in its roster, Diva continues on in its quest to provide quality artwork at reasonable prices. Over the coming months, the company aims to add even more fine art pieces from today’s breed of up-and-coming masters.
