(Newswire.net — February 22, 2016) — Declassified NASA materials revealed mysterious whooshing sounds recorded just ahead of Apollo 11’s 1969 moon landing mission two months later, Russia Today reported. Apollo 10’s mission recorded the ‘Moon’s Music’ after orbiting the dark side of the moon.

As soon as Apollo 10 started to orbit the Moon’s dark side, all communications with Earth were lost. However, onboard audio recording devices started to pick up strange whooshing noise that the astronauts were able to hear through speakers. It sounded like nothing they have ever heard before. NASA scientists were able to hear the recording soon after the Apollo module peaked from behind the Moon, however, as it couldn’t be explained, it was buried in an archive and keep quiet for decades.

NASA’s classified archive was opened to the public in 2008, but the archive is so huge it took almost 8 years for these recordings to be discovered and presented to the public, however, they remain unexplained. The recording was played on the Science Channel’s Unexplained Files.

“There are recorders that record whatever’s going on on the back side, and then you do a data dump when you come around the front side, and Houston or mission control then can see what happened when you were around the back side,” Al Worden, astronaut with Apollo 15 explained in the documentary, Unexplained Files, available on YouTube.

The “musical” transmission lasted for almost an hour. It contained a musical sequence of harmonies which could not have come from any manmade source as there’s no radio signal on the far side of the Moon.

The recording also includes the astronaut’s debate whether they should tell Mission Control about it. “It’s unbelievable! You know?” they confess.

Almost five decades later, there are still no clues as to what made those mysterious “whistling sounds” that the recording devices picked up above the Moon’s surface.

Trying to explain the phenomenon, some scientists came up with a theory that the strange sounds were due to charged particles interacting with a magnetic field, the way they do on Jupiter and Saturn.

The Moon, however, has no magnetic field or atmosphere of any kind.
