(Newswire.net — March 8, 2016) National Harbor, Maryland –Assimilating position statements and guidelines from numerous sports and medical organizations, neurologist Dr. Harry Kerasidis, co-Founder and Medical Director of XLNTbrain LLC, authored the scientific rationale and application behind the online and mobile platform XLNTbrain Sport™ in a white paper available today.

Dr. Kerasidis says the work is a reflection of 25 years studying and treating concussions and related after-effects. He integrated the consensus  statements, and published scientific guidelines in his methodologies with the latest in technologies for XLNTbrain.com. Rooted in science, the XLNTbrain Sport online concussion protocol incorporates several unique features including emotional measures at baseline, as well as providing an automated Return-to-Learn protocol within the concussion recovery protocol. He noted that new Science Advisors — Dr. Alan Ashare, a board of director for USA Hockey, and Adam Thomas, a physical therapist for the Boston Red Sox — will continue to shape the tools according the latest research.

“Whenever I hear ‘concussion needs more research,’ I have mixed feelings, because not only is it true, but it is also misleading,” said Dr. Kerasidis, certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and graduate of Georgetown University. “The truth is we know a lot about concussion injuries, and certainly enough to aid in the prevention, detection and recovery.”

According to Dr. Kerasidis, the white paper outlines how the XLNTbrain Sport program has integrated the convergence of position statements and best practices established in science today, to help develop a new standard in concussion care. The protocol is implemented during all of the following phases:

  1. Preseason Planning, Education and Evaluation
  2. Sideline (or pitch side) Evaluation and Reporting
  3. Post Injury Management

One highlight from the white paper is the inclusion of the XLNTbrain education module, which helps schools and sports leagues comply with newly mandated state laws. Via video and computer interface, with an internet connection, student-athletes can participate in an online concussion awareness educational activity, which includes a short quiz to verify understanding of the basics of concussion awareness. Administrators can monitor compliance for all teams.

“Although there’s much more to XLNTbrain’s comprehensive approach to sports concussions, the scientific evidence in the video gives the viewer reason to respect the injury which could save a life,” said Dr. Kerasidis. “Beginning with education and continuing throughout each step of the season, we brought all the concussion testing and procedures into one protocol.”

Dr. Kerasidis added that XLNTbrain is currently being reviewed through athletic associations in Michigan, Alabama, Texas and New York and is well-suited for a variety of clinical applications.
