Worldwide Survey: The Top Seven Leadership Competencies

(Newswire.net — April 1, 2016) Chanos Curson, Chanos Curson — A study that has interviewed 195 leaders in over 30 global organizations in 15 countries has taken place in order to determine what makes the best type of leader worldwide. In the study, participants were asked to choose the 15 most important leadership competencies from a list of 74. The top competencies were then grouped into five major themes that suggest a set of priorities for leaders and leadership development programs.

According to Harvard Business Review, the themes that all leaders should have are: demonstrate strong ethics and provide a sense of safety, empower others to self-organize, foster a sense of connection and belonging, show openness to new ideas and foster organizational learning, and nurture growth.

These are all difficult to master because improving them often requires for one to act against his or her own nature.  These seven areas present significant challenges to leaders due to the natural responses that are hard wired within us. But with deep self-reflection and a shift in perspective, there are numerous opportunities for improving everyone’s performance by focusing on our own.
