(Newswire.net — March 25, 2016) Huntington Beach, CA — James Hurley, Pikeville University’s former president was named dean of the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business. This was announced by LMU President B. James Dawson, who welcomed the addition of Hurley to the university’s administrative staff. Dawson, who cited Hurley’s lengthy track record of success in the area of global outreach, is particularly excited about the development. “(LMU’s) School of Business will benefit greatly from (Hurley’s) experience.” Dawson said.

Hurley’s position at LMU follows his tenure as president of the University of Pikeville (UPIKE). An alumnus of UPIKE himself, Hurley returned to the university in 2009, and served as vice president for enrollment management and executive vice president. After serving as president-elect for a short period, Hurley was inaugurated as UPIKE president in 2013.

Just as he did in UPIKE, Hurley brings to LMU extensive experience as an educator and administrator. With more than 11 years of experience in the field of public education, Hurley has served numerous essential roles throughout his career, including that of principal, assistant principal, dean of students, and teacher. Hurley has even worked as a coach at LMU’s athletics department.

Given James Hurley’s successful stint at Pikeville, expectations are high that he would be able to put his considerable talents to good use at LMU. While Hurley was president at UPIKE, the university registered its highest enrollment rate in its history. The university also experienced a period of active growth under Hurley’s leadership. With his efforts in expanding educational opportunities for international students and developing three international partnerships with universities in China, Hurley served as an effective driving force for globalization and diversity at UPIKE.

Hurley also played an instrumental role in the establishment of three new colleges while still at UPIKE: Coleman College of Business, the Patton College of Education, and the Kentucky College of Optometry. With his vision, leadership, and remarkable fundraising abilities, Hurley also played a front and center role in the launching of a UPIKE capital raising campaign that netted $62 million for the university–a significant portion of the targeted $75 million.

Even with his numerous accomplishments, it is his role as an educator that is closest to Hurley’s heart. Expressing his eagerness and excitement at being accepted into the dean’s position at LMU, Hurley said, “I look forward to working with the (LMU) administration, faculty, staff and students in (continuing the advancement) of economic opportunities and business education at the regional, national and international levels.” To learn more about Dr. Hurley, visit https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-james-l-hurley-6638b233.
