(Newswire.net — March 30, 2016) Huntington Beach, CA — LGBT rights activist Caleb Laieski is pushing for legal action against the GOP for blocking the appointment of Chief Judge Merrick B. Garland to the United States Supreme Court. A longtime advocate of LGBT rights, anti-bullying, and suicide prevention causes, Laieski has brought his campaign to organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union, Public Citizen, and People for the American Way in order to encourage them to take legal measures. Chief Judge Garland was appointed to the position by President Barack Obama.

Laieski is one of the more vocal opponents of the GOP-sanctioned blocking of Judge Garland’s appointment, an action that he perceived to be part of the Republican Party’s “obstructionist agenda”. For Laieski and many others, the incident also glaringly exhibited the GOP’s failure to lead.

Laieski has also brought his appeal to a number of noted constitutional attorneys, in a bid to formulate a strategic solution to the issue. In an editorial published on Advocate.com, Laieski reminded readers of the Senate’s responsibility to give nominees “fair consideration”. For the longtime LGBT rights activist, the blocking of Chief Judge Garland’s appointment signified not only the Senate leaders’ failure to fulfill their constitutional duty, but their violation of their oaths of office as well.

Laieski editorial–entitled Let’s Sue the GOP–appeared to have struck a chord. At the time of this writing, the article in question had already been shared on various social media networks over 400 times. For Laieski, this wellspring of support simply reaffirmed his belief in this and his many other advocacies.

Even without such a sizeable swell of support, Laieski would likely still be at the forefront of campaigns to uphold the constitutional and human rights of others. He began his advocacy for LGBT rights at the young age of 16, after dropping out of school because of relentless–and sometimes, vicious–bullying from his peers. After managing to overcome these early struggles and earning his GED, he devoted his life to actively campaigning for LGBT rights, anti-bullying, and suicide prevention.

For Laieski, urging the GOP to allow a hearing and a vote on Chief Judge Garland’s nomination is simply another battle in his lifelong quest for freedom, justice, and equality. With this particular lawsuit, he hopes to draw attention to the Republicans’ obstructionist policies and subsequently, have Capitol Hill assume responsible for its actions.
