(Newswire.net — June 22, 2016) — In just two days, Donald Trump faced an assassination attempt, and dismissed one of his closest associates.
The billionaire dodged a bullet on Saturday, when 19 year old Michael Sandford stole a gun from a police officer at Trump’s rally in Las Vegas. Sanford, a British citizen, had been planning the assassination for almost a year.
Inexperienced Sandford had never fired a gun or any other weapons, but he practiced shooting in a shooting range in the meanwhile.
After his arrest he explained to the police that he was aware that the chances of killing Donald Trump were slim, but he had a plan B. Sandford was planning to also attend the next rally in Phoenix, for which he bought a ticket in case his “Las Vegas” operation failed.
The indictment against Sandford was filed, and on Sunday, Trump read the incident report while preparing for the week ahead, but the new work week began without Lewandowski, his former close associate.
Trump thanked Corey Lewandowski for his hard work and dedication as the manager of his presidential campaign.
Lewandowski had been with him from the very beginning of the campaign and brought him to the finish, advocating a strategy that “Trump simply needs to be Trump”.
He rejected the idea that the Trump team needed more experienced colleagues and that the billionaire must soften his rhetoric.
As time passed, the funds for the campaign have gotten smaller. Trump’s sons, donors and allies continue to insist that its machinery must be transformed into a more conventional policy. Which means – Corey Lewandowski has to go.
The New York Times wrote that this change is a sign of Trump’s determination to express himself a little differently on the eve of the election, probably under pressure from the Republican National Committee, which expressed a desire for a change in the campaign. The Committee has indicated that they are willing to give him a chance.
The departure of the man who has successfully led the Trump campaign, has opened the door for change.
Barry Bennett, a current Trump advisor, told the the New York Times that Corey deserves recognition because he did an amazing job – Trump has won more votes than anyone has ever received with record low costs. At the end of May, Trump only had $1.3 million in cash, and Hillary had around $42 million.
However, there are speculations that Corey was not fired but that he went willingly, because Trump has no more money to pay him.
