(Newswire.net — July 3, 2016) —The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating whether Hillary Clinton and her colleagues broke the law as a result of a personal email server that she kept, as well as the possible mishandling of confidential information over the server, while she was Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.

The United States Department of Justice is trying to determine whether there were was any wrongdoing, while the former first lady of the United States denies that she mishandled classified information over her private email accounts.

Attorney General of the United States, Loretta Lynch, said that she will accept the results of the FBI investigation on the case, and whether to bring up charges against Clinton, who is now a Democratic Party candidate for president of the United States.

Hillary Clinton met with the FBI agents for three and a half hours Saturday morning at the FBI headquarters in Washington. The interview followed a week of intense public focus on the investigation.

Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said in a statement that Clinton voluntarily met with the FBI for the interview about her private email server while leading the State Department.

Her spokesman added that she is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion. Out of respect for the investigative process, she will not comment further on her interview, Merrill said in a statement.

CNN reports that sources familiar with the investigation had previously said that the Justice Department wishes to finish the investigation before the Republican and Democratic conventions later this month.

The timing of the investigation is important. If Clinton is indicted before the convention, the Democrats could perhaps nominate another candidate.
