(Newswire.net — July 20, 2016) — Following success mixed with controversy at every turn in his campaign, Trump won the majority of delegates – 1,725, well over the 1,237 needed to become the Republican presidential nominee.

Trump was followed by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas who won 475 delegates, Ohio Governor John Kasich who secured 120 and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida who ended up with 114.

Trump’s eldest child, Donald Trump JR., as expected, announced their home state, New York’s support, Reuters reports. “Congratulations, Dad. We love you,” he said.

Trump’s Democratic counterpart, Clinton (69), responded quickly to the news, tweeting: “Donald Trump just became the Republican nominee. Chip in now to make sure he never steps foot in the Oval Office.”

In his first appearance since winning the nomination, Donald Trump addressed his followers from New York via video link, once again promising to make “America great again.” He promised to create jobs, tighten the U.S. borders and “restore law and order” to keep “America safe.” Trump also promised to strengthen the military but didn’t elaborate exactly how he would do it.

As per tradition of controversy in every public appearance, Monday evening at the GOP convention was no different after a speech by Trump’s wife, Melania, drew attention of those who remember the same speech from Michelle Obama in 2008.

Extremely similar to the point of plagiarism, the media noted that Melania’s speech echoes what the First Lady had also said in 2008. Here are some questionable lines from Trump’s speech:

“My parents impressed on me the values: that you work hard for what you want in life. That your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise. That you treat people with respect. They taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life. That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son.

“And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

And here is what Michelle Obama said in her speech in 2008:

“And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.

“And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”

It is not hard to imagine Donald Trump approaching who ever wrote the speech for his wife Melania and saying “You’re Fired!”
