(Newswire.net — August 26, 2016) — Three people have been killed in a residential area in Scarborough, an east end suburb of Toronto, in what appears to be a kiling by arrows shot from a crossbow, local media reported.
The police responded to a distress call about the “attack” in the Toronto residential area. When police officers arrived on the scene, they found three bodies on the street, with wounds that looked like they were inflicted with a sharp object.
At the scene of attack, the police found a crossbow that is believed to be the murder weapon. It is not clear if the police found any arrows as well, or if the killer took them with.
The incident occurred near Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East, CTV news reports.
The officer on the scene reported two men and a woman, dead on arrival.
“Officers arrived on the scene and discovered two people suffering from what we believe to be crossbow or crossbow bolt injuries,” David Hopkinson from Toronto police told CP24.
The paramedic reported, that the man was transferred to a hospital with injuries. After checking the call preferences, the Police found out that the distress call was made by one of the victims.
A 35 year old, unidentified man, was taken into custody, according to the police.
“We don’t have any idea with regards to why this may have happened,” said police spokesman David Hopkinson. The two men and the woman were pronounced dead.
Later that day, the police evacuated a building in the Downtown Core area of the city.
In a related incident, police evacuated a building in the Downtown Core area of the city, due to a suspicious package, Detective Mike Carbone told a news conference. He gave no details on what the package contained, or if this incident is related to the crossbow killings.
Although crossbow hunting is very popular in Canada, incidents of killing people with this weapon are extremely rare. In 2010, a man shot his father in the back with a crossbow in a Toronto public library before smashing his skull with a hammer.
An arrow shot from a hunting crossbow has a penetrating power greater than a bullet shot from a rifle.
