Viisliam Survey Finds That Only 41 Percent of Households in America Have An Emergency Kit

(Newswire.net — August 29, 2016) Fort Worth, Texas — On average, approximately one third of all households in America experience a power outage each year.  Although most of these outages last just a few hours or less, some last for much longer periods of time.  Yet a survey, conducted by Viisliam, a leader in flashlight products, found that only 41 percent of American households have prepared themselves for such occurrences by having an emergency kit in place.

An emergency kit is simply a collection of some basic items that your household will need in case of a power outage or some other form of emergency.

“A power outage or severe weather event can happen at any moment, and if you have not prepared ahead of time, you could literally be left in the cold and dark,” said William Sims, President of Viisliam.  “Assembling an emergency kit in advance just makes a lot of sense.  If you have to evacuate at a moment’s notice, you will obviously not have the time to gather the emergency items that you will need and that is why doing so before hand is so important.”

In an emergency you may need to survive on your own for awhile before help arrives.  This help could show up in hours, or in some cases, it could be days.  In severe circumstances, basic services like gas, electricity, water and sewer may also not be in working order.

Having a plan in place before an emergency arises, and practicing that plan so that you and your family are ready to go ahead of time, is essential.

Among the items that you will want to include in your emergency kit is a multi-function LED flashlight.  Having a single unit that can serve as a flashlight, work light and as an emergency strobe light, will provide you with multiple valuable options.

Before placing the flashlight into your emergency kit, Viisliam recommends that you tape the batteries to the outside of the flashlight housing rather than inserting them into the unit itself.  Doing so will eliminate the possibility of battery leakage damaging the flashlight itself and possibly rendering it no longer functional.
