Fish Oil Fights Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

(Newswire.net — October 28, 2016) Orlando, FL — Fish oil supplements are one of the most widely used natural alternatives nowadays. They are widely believed to be potentially helpful in fighting conditions such as cardiovascular disease and arthritis. There are other possible health benefits associated with the use of fish oils, including one that may be favorable to lung health.

Fish oil supplements could potentially be helpful in fighting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Individuals who are prone to or suffering from this lung problem may follow a diet that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

“Fish oil contains potentially therapeutic substances called omega-3 fatty acids,” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

According to the research study conducted in Japan, consuming fish that are rich in omega-3 fats could aid in the treatment of COPD. Fish with higher levels of omega-3 fats include herring, walleye, salmon, and halibut.

Unfortunately, intake of omega-3 fats in the United States is quite low. This has caused alarm to healthcare providers and experts considering that these fats are believed to be helpful in fighting a range of conditions. Many people even use fish oil supplements to potentially combat depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart disease.

Japanese doctors conducted a two-year study among individuals with COPD. They found that the fat has the potential to curb COPD, which is believed to be the number five cause of mortality around the world. Unfortunately, the prevalence of the disease is expected to rise in the coming years.

A study was conducted by Wataru Matsuyama, MD, PhD, from the Japan’s Kagoshima University Hospital’s respiratory medicine division. It involved 64 individuals with COPD, who refrained from smoking for six months and did not experience a bad flare-up. The subjects neither used antibiotics nor nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The findings of the study revealed that the group who took omega-3 fats experienced a reduction in the inflammation they had in their lungs. They were also able to perform better in the six-minute walking test. The researchers suggest that incorporating omega-3s in a sufferer’s diet may be a practical method in the treatment of COPD.

While eating fish may be highly recommended, there are supplements available to individuals who may not want to regularly incorporate fish into their diet. What makes fish oil supplements potentially more beneficial is that they often contain little to no environmental pollutants. Many herbal supplement manufacturers use a process that may eliminate environmental pollutants such as mercury and other heavy metals. (http://amazon.com/omega-3-fatty-acids/dp/B00O8NS20K)
