Why All of a Sudden Spinal Decompression the New Rage?

(Newswire.net — December 8, 2016) Darien, CT –Over 17 years ago I hurt my back changing a tire on my wife’s car. I thought the pain would subside after a few days. I was wrong. The pain persisted and got worse. My normal activities were limited. My sleep was terrible and I was unable to exercise. So in addition to being in pain I got fatter. The Advil did not work. So my own pain relieving journey began.

I should mention that I am a chiropractor. I am used to helping people with bad backs on a daily basis. So when my own back did not respond to chiropractic care, physical therapy, exercise, yoga, medicine, injections or back braces I got worried. Chronic pain as you might expect is no fun and after 2 years it was starting to get old.

One day an equipment salesman stopped by unannounced trying to sell me a fantastic new non-surgical spinal decompression machine that eliminates back pain. When he told me the price was $156,000 I started to push him out the door. He kept his foot in the doorway blocking me from closing the door. Then he said these magic words “You can try it for free for 2 months”. I opened the door and invited him back in. He said they were looking for a beta site in this area where they would install and train my staff on how to use the spinal decompression for patients with bad backs. All for free. If the decompression machine failed to deliver they would come pick it up. what did I have to loose?

Guess who was going to be the guinea pig? Me. That’s right, I was going to experience all the benefits of spinal decompression first. You know what, after the 6 weeks were up I was about 90% better. This was after almost 2 years of back pain. I still went to work those 2 years but I got heavier, my sleep was terrible and as tough as it is to admit my mood was pretty sour. You would think I was happy with a 90% improvement in my pain but I was not. Some regular exercise and a few more weeks later the pain was completely gone. I remember walking up the back stairs to my house and realizing I was totally pain free. What an amazing feeling.

As you may have guessed I bought the machine. It has helped many other people who had chronic lower back problems get the relief they needed but could not find elsewhere. Now not everyone with a bad back can be helped with spinal decompression. If you have metal rods in your back or are prone to fractures this is not right for you. However, it is a much more conservative treatment option than surgery is. If you are considering back surgery, contact your local chiropractor first to find out if you could benefit from spinal decompression therapy.
