(Newswire.net — January 2, 2017) — As 2016 came to a close on December 31st, early Saturday morning, president-elect Donald Trump tweeted a rather unusal message: “Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!”.

Although this is not the first time that Mr. Trump has sent holiday wishes to his opponents, this message raised many questions and left many people wondering how to interpret Mr. Trump’s use of Twitter, the Independent reports.

This greeting refers to, among others, the unsuccessful Democratic White House candidate, Mrs. Hillary Clinton.

Earlier on Friday, December 30th, in a separate statement, Mr. Trump also expressed seasonal greetings to Mr. Obama, his family and the American people.

After the clock struck midnight on December 31st 2016, President-elect Donald Trump published a new tweet. He wished a happy New Year to all Americans, using the hashtag #MAGA (Make America Great Again, the motto of his election campaign). He also added an image of the American flag.

Meanwhile, Trump retweeted New Year pictures and greetings from his children, as well as its White House chief of staff, Rhines Priebus and his Campaign Social Media Director, Daniel Scavino Jr.

Later that Saturday, Vice president-elect, Mike Pence, sent a more traditional New Year greeting.

“Happy New Year! 2017 will be the year we Make America Great Again! We wish you every blessing for healthy & prosperous New Year! The Pences”, Mike Pence tweeted.

Donald Trump has spent the holidays at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, with his wife Melania and son Barron, but also with 800 guests, all of which had to pay their entry to the New Year’s Eve event.

The annual Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve is a highlight on the private club’s social calendar. Ticket prices range from $525 for members to $575 for members’ guests.

According to Trump’s incoming White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, the event was sold out. Sylvester Stallone was among notable guests, as well as many other celebrities.

Mar-a-Lago is a luxury estate with fountains, pools and a croquet lawn. Trump bought the estate in 1985. The ornate space holds numerous annual fundraisers during the Palm Beach social season.
