(Newswire.net — January 11, 2017) Orlando, FL — Today, there are individuals who suffer from certain medical conditions that are also at risk of certain complications. For instance, individuals who suffer from arthritis may be at risk of certain diseases or disorders in various bodily organs.

Experts suggest that rheumatoid arthritis suffers should be vigilant against kidney problems. Having rheumatoid arthritis itself is already a struggle. There are even many sufferers who resort to a variety of treatments, from pharmaceutical drugs to surgery, just to help improve their overall condition.

According to Eric Matteson, M.D., Mayo Clinic Rheumatology Chair and senior author of the study, individuals with rheumatoid arthritis are more likely to develop chronic kidney disease than the average person. This study was published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, the National Kidney Foundation journal.

The Mayo Clinic research also shows that rheumatoid arthritis sufferers are more prone to severe inflammation in the first year of suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. There are other risk factors, such as high blood pressure, corticosteroid use, and obesity.

Healthcare providers should conduct some periodic testing for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers for any signs of kidney problems. It is similarly important that sufferers should take measures to keep their blood pressure under control and avoid medications that may damage the kidneys.

In the study, there were 813 Mayo Clinic sufferers with rheumatoid arthritis and another group of 813 individuals without the condition. The researchers found that in over a 20-year period, individuals with rheumatoid arthritis may have a 1 in 4 chance of suffering from chronic kidney disease. In the general population, there is a 1 in 5 risk of chronic kidney disease.

There are factors believed to contribute to the increased risk of kidney disease for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. One of these factors is the use of certain medications.

Since there haven’t been any guidelines for the management of chronic kidney disease for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, it is imperative that doctors and sufferers are aware of the risk of the condition linked with rheumatoid arthritis.

Complications are among the potential burdens that RA sufferers may be subjected to, in addition to pain. This is why it is important that they take the measures necessary to help reduce their risk of these complications.

Over the years, arthritis sufferers have been resorting to certain alternatives to potentially ease pain, improve their mobility, and enhance their overall quality of life. The use of natural supplements, such as glucosamine, is one of these alternatives.

Glucosamine is one of the most popular joint health supplements today.
