(Newswire.net — February 13, 2017) Orlando, FL — Arthritic conditions do not only cause pain but also reduce the quality of life of sufferers. There are many individuals who are suffering from the condition who resort to certain surgical procedures.

U.S. report shows hip replacement rates continue to skyrocket. According to the new government statistics, the procedure has become even more common in younger individuals.

Dr. Mark Pagnano, chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, reveals that the procedure has been found to be one of the most cost-effective and dramatic ways to improve the patients’ overall quality of life.

Dr. Pagnano also added that recovery has been quite easy for arthritis sufferers. The procedure also demonstrated certain improvements in the durability of hip replacements.

According to hospital statistics on total hip replacement from 2000 to 2010, it was found that the number of hip replacement procedures doubled. The number skyrocketed by 96 percent, especially among those who were 75 years and older.

Monica Wolford, the report lead author and statistician with the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), states that that osteoarthritis is becoming more prevalent. However, the statistics in the study did not reveal the reasons why the procedures are being performed.

According to Dr. Pagnano, degenerative arthritis due to wear-and-tear is typically the reason why a majority of hip replacements in middle-aged individuals are taking place. It was also found that the number of hip replacements in younger people is increasing.

The report has also revealed that the average hospital stay for the overall number of hip replacement patients decreased almost five days in 2000. Early recovery was noticed due to the improved rehabilitation procedures, better control of blood loss during surgery, and better pain management.

Anita Bercovitz, report co-author and health scientists with the NCHS, also said that the numbers indicate that many of the hip replacements already performed could mean more replacements when they eventually wear out.

The report was published by the NCHS as a Data Brief.

The modern total hip replacement surgery was first developed in the early 1960s. Today, many individuals who suffer from arthritis resort to a surgical procedure. However, there are also those who manage their pain through certain pharmaceutical drugs or natural joint health supplements.

While certain pain medications are helpful for pain relief, they cause side effects. This is why more and more arthritis sufferers are turning to the use of natural remedies, such as glucosamine.

Glucosamine has long been believed to be one of the most popular joint health supplements (http://amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0).
