(Newswire.net — February 9, 2017) — National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) manipulated climate change results in order to obtain budget funds, the whistleblower claims.
According to NOAA’s recently retired top scientist, John Bates, the agency manipulated global warming data ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in 2015 to secure more findings as a result of global temperature escalation warning.
Bates accused Thomas Karl, the head of the climate change department at the government agency, that he had manipulated the data in the report. He told the Mail on Sunday that Karl “rushed” to authorize the data which was used to bust the concern over global warning prior the UN Climate Change Conference.
The move resulted in securing hundreds of billions of dollars for research sponsored by the wealthiest countries in the world.
The whistleblower, however, claims that the temperatures were not found to be rising. In fact, data showed an unexplained but stabile temperature stagnation, despite the rising levels of CO2 emissions.
Scientists were puzzled with the “pause” unveiled in the 2012 UN report. Before researchers could understand the nature of stabile temperatures, the U.S. government agency head, Thomas Karl, pushed the the report, showing that acceleration of global warming continues and no one had questioned the results.
Just months before world leaders congregated in Paris, Karl’s report displayed global warming acceleration had picked up the pace to 0.116C per decade.
According to Bates, Karl was “insisting on decisions and scientific choices that maximized warming and minimized documentation”. Bates told the Mail that Karl steered national and international climate policy, deliberately misinforming authorities in order to acquire funding.
“They had good data from buoys. And they threw it out and ‘corrected’ it by using the bad data from ships. You never change good data to agree with bad, but that’s what they did – so as to make it look as if the sea was warmer,” Bates told the Mail.
Immediately upon releasing, Karl’s report triggered skepticism in the science community. Mainstream media, however, dismissed any information other than the global warming alert.
The U.S. President, Donald Trump, known for his skepticism on climate change, finds that global warming skeptics are waging war with government agencies whose agenda is money rather than the truth.
“How ironic it is that there is now this idea that Trump is going to trash climate data, when key decisions were earlier taken by someone whose responsibility it was to maintain its integrity – and failed,” Bates said.
On the other hand, glaciers are still melting down rapidly, influencing not only the sea level but the salinity as well.
Bates served as a member of the board of directors of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and was awarded the U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal in 2014 for his work in collecting and archiving climate data.
