(Newswire.net — March 16, 2017) Orlando, FL — Arthritis causes pain and immobility. There are those who live a reduced quality of life due to the condition. It is imperative that people are aware of the signs of this condition to get treatment in the earliest time possible.

A new study reveals early symptoms of knee arthritis may be felt when using the stairs. Engaging in simple physical activities is something that humans are designed to do. However, for individuals with arthritis, doing many of these simple things could be challenging of even impossible.

According to the new study conducted by the University of Leeds experts, individuals who suffer from knee pain while using the stairs may potentially be having the early symptoms of osteoarthritis.

The research was published in the medical journal called the Arthritis Care & Research. It aimed at investigating the type of patient-reported activities that are first linked with knee pain. This can significantly help enhance early detection of osteoarthritis as well as the chance for people to have an effective treatment.

The study was led by Philip Conaghan, Professor of Musculoskeletal Medicine in the School of Medicine.

According to professor Conaghan, they currently have limited concept when it comes to early osteoarthritis. People are only seen when they are already suffering from loss of function and significant longstanding pain.

Understanding the early signs of knee osteoarthritis can help healthcare providers and even experts intervene earlier. This can potentially lead to more effective techniques in treating this condition, which has long been known to be very painful.

The study involved 4,673 individuals who suffer from or are at a high risk of osteoarthritis. The research team looked at the cases of these individuals, and required participants to complete annual surveys.

The participants were required to complete the annual surveys for seven years. This helped researchers monitor the emergence of pain while the participants were engaging in different activities over a long-term period.

The study revealed that the first weight-bearing task was the use of stairs in which the participants felt pain.

Pain is one of the most natural consequences of having arthritis. Arthritis sufferers actually use varying approach in dealing with pain and improving their overall quality of life.

There are those who use pain medications while others turn to the use of natural remedies such as glucosamine supplements. Glucosamine is believed to be a powerful joint health supplement.

There are many arthritis sufferers who turn to the use of glucosamine supplements because this option is believed to be safer than pain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Supplement-2000mg-serving/dp/B0126ZF0B0/).
