( — March 18, 2017) Orlando, FL — Rheumatoid arthritis is neither a strange nor an unfamiliar medical condition. In fact, there are many who suffer from it or who know someone who has the disease. There are many questions about the condition, such as how severe it could progress.

Researchers reveal whether rheumatoid arthritis may be a fatal disease. There is a variety of opinions about the condition. There are those who think that RA is more complicated of a disease, versus fatal.

The good news is that rheumatoid arthritis is not a fatal condition. It is often called a chronic disease, which means sufferers are going to have it for the duration of their life. The condition is however, associated with higher risk of fatal complications.

According to research, rheumatoid arthritis is linked with decreased life expectancy due to the complications it may cause. It is even estimated that the life expectancy of the sufferers may be cut by 10 years.

Rheumatoid arthritis is linked with systemic inflammation, which is believed to indirectly cause a shortened lifespan. It may also play a role in the increased risk of serious infection, metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, and atherosclerosis. Any of these conditions may significantly contribute to premature death.

According to research, approximately 40% of rheumatoid arthritis mortality is attributed to cardiovascular events. Individuals with rheumatoid arthritis are believed to have a two-fold heightened risk of heart attack or stroke than individuals who are not suffering from the condition.

The Journal of Rheumatology published a study that investigated whether or not rheumatoid arthritis in the absence of apparent signs of cardiovascular disease had higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome. It was found that indeed, individuals with arthritis were more susceptible to metabolic syndrome.

The Arthritis and Rheumatism published a study in 2002 and revealed that individuals with rheumatoid arthritis have been found to be at an increased risk of infection.

Gastrointestinal perforation is one of the potential causes of death linked with rheumatoid arthritis. Research found that individuals treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be at an increased risk of gastrointestinal problems.

It is important to note that many arthritis sufferers nowadays take NSAIDs and other pain medications to ease pain, improve their mobility, and regain the quality of their life. Unfortunately, these medications may also cause side effects.

There are natural alternatives believed to be safer than NSAIDs and other pain medications, and one is curcumin. Curcumin is a bioactive ingredient found in turmeric, which is an ancient spice.
