(Newswire.net — April 5, 2017) — Proposed NHS cuts have sparked massive protests and, according to results from a survey released today, the majority of Brits are seriously concerned about maternity cuts and the impact they will have across Britain.

The survey, conducted by www.myvouchercodes.co.uk polled Brits on their feelings regarding the cuts with a focus on the proposals to move maternity care away from hospitals and into community based care systems.

Moving maternity care out of hospitals has been hit with resounding opposition, with almost 7 out of every 10 Brits polled saying they don’t agree with the idea. Groups have highlighted that the health and safety of mothers and babies is at risk, with some potentially having to travel two hours to reach the nearest maternity ward.

A shocking 92% of UK residents admit there is no way they could afford the estimated £3200 – £57000[i] to cover maternity costs if the NHS didn’t exist, and more than 60% say they would be willing to pay more taxes if it meant safeguarding the future of the NHS.

Managing Director, Chris Reilly of My Voucher Codes said the response to the NHS cuts is:

“It’s no secret that the general public is unhappy with the continued NHS cuts. This survey shows that people are not only taking to the streets – they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is and would contribute more taxes if it meant securing the NHS. Put plain and simply, people just can’t afford maternity care without NHS support,”

67% of Brits say they weren’t aware that cuts to maternity units would affect the availability of parenting classes, guidance regarding breastfeeding and bereavement support.
