(Newswire.net — April 20, 2017) Orlando, FL — Having healthy teeth and gums requires proper oral hygiene on a daily basis. However, there are certain natural alternatives believed to be helpful in maintaining and improving dental health.

Green tea may be nature’s gift for healthy teeth and gums. For over 4,000 years, green tea has been consumed in Asia and other parts of the world.

“Today, green tea is becoming more and more popular in the United States,” said Mary Jackson, the spokesperson of Divine Bounty.

According to ancient Japanese and Chinese medicine, green tea consumption may be able to benefit certain types of wounds or even diseases. The potential benefits green tea may offer have been a subject of many scientific studies and clinical trials.

In a study published in the Journal of Periodontology, which is the American Academy of Periodontology’s official publication, the intake of green tea may help promote healthy gums and teeth.

The researchers studied 940 male participants and they found that those who drank green tea regularly had superior periodontal health compared to those who consumed green tea on a less frequent basis.

According to Dr. Yoshihiro Shimazaki of Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan, for a long time green tea has been thought to offer a variety of health benefits. His research team conducted a study to determine the effects of green tea considering the association of periodontal health and overall well-being.

They were male participants between 49 to 59 years of age. The researchers had three indicators of periodontal disease, namely the clinical attachment loss (CAL) of gum tissue, periodontal pocket depth (PD), and bleeding on probing (BOP) of the gum tissue.

It was found that there was a decrease in all of these indicators when a cup of green tea was consumed every day. Thus, it means that this beverage may have reduced the instance of periodontal disease in the participants who consumed it.

It is believed that the antioxidant of green tea called catechin is responsible for its ability to potentially decrease the symptoms of periodontal disease.

In previous research study, it was found that these antioxidants helped decrease inflammation in the body. They may offer the ability to interfere with the inflammatory response of the body to periodontal bacteria in the mouth. It is important to note that this chronic inflammatory disease called periodontal disease affects the bone and gums that support the teeth.

The condition has also been linked with the progression of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other ailments. Individuals who want to take advantage of the potential health benefits of green tea may consume it as a beverage or through supplementation.
