(Newswire.net — May 4, 2017) Orlando, FL — Today, arthritis has been increasingly affecting people from around the world. In addition to pain, this condition is also linked with the development of certain conditions, such as those affecting the heart.
Heart-related deaths are declining among rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. It has been previously revealed that individuals with rheumatoid arthritis are twice as likely to suffer from heart disease than the average person. However, in a new study, it was found that the efforts exerted in the prevention and treatment of heart problems may actually be paying off.
A finding in a new study presented at the American College of Rheumatology’s annual meeting has astonished researchers and individuals with arthritis. Despite the increased danger, it has been found that mortality linked with cardiovascular disease among individuals with rheumatoid arthritis is declining.
In the study, the researchers examined the heart disease deaths within 10 years of diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis among two groups. It was found that deaths linked with heart disease have been reduced significantly in the more recently-diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
The researchers also analyzed the death rate in individuals with coronary heart disease, which is a particular type of cardiovascular disorder. It was found that the death rates also declined within 10 years after rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis.
According to Elena Myasoedova, MD, PhD, a rheumatologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, lead author of the study, more research is required to confirm whether there is a decline in the heart disease deaths linked with rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
Earlier screening for heart problems, increased attention to rheumatoid arthritis sufferers, and enhanced treatment for heart disease, are the factors that can help reduce death rates.
The Mayo Clinic has long been studying the link between heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis. The Mayo’s Cardio-Rheumatology Clinic was even established by rheumatologists and cardiologists.
For individuals suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, it can be extremely difficult to live every day without pain. This is why there are sufferers who use pain medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
While these medications may be extremely helpful in relieving pain, they may also cause side effects. For this reason, many arthritis sufferers are turning to the use of safer alternatives such as glucosamine.
Glucosamine is a naturally-occurring substance in the body. This natural alternative is believed to help repair cartilage damage and may help to improve overall joint health.
One of the benefits of using glucosamine is that it doesn’t cause side effects, which many arthritis sufferers are actually trying to protect themselves from.
