The Choice Between Wine and Beer Could Worsen Arthritis

Experts reveal whether wine or beer is worse for osteoarthritis. It also contains the x-ray films of the hands, hips, and knees of the study participants. The researchers looked into 993 individuals with severely osteoarthritic hips and 1,001 with osteoarthritic knees. In the study, there were also 933 controls who had no osteoarthritis based on the X-rays or medical exams.

Each study participant completed three separate questionnaires. The questionnaire was designed to get information about the participants’ drinking patterns, which include the duration, frequency, and type of alcohol consumed.

The research team then calculated the average total alcohol intake of every participant. The second questionnaire, on the other hand, was about the intake of 126 foods as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

The third questionnaire was designed to ensure the reliability of that information. It is also important to note that the researchers collected lifestyle information, such as the physical activity level, employment history, smoking status, weight, height, and medical conditions like previous joint injuries.

It was found that the choice of alcoholic beverage influenced osteoarthritis risk. According to the researchers, there was no connection in between the incidence of osteoarthritis and alcohol-free drinks.

Wine was linked with a lower incidence of knee osteoarthritis. The more intake of wine, such as up to seven glasses, the lower the risk of knee osteoarthritis.
