(Newswire.net -- July 25, 2017) Darien, CONNECTICUT -- As we near the end of July those of you who enjoy tennis may be starting to feel some soreness after playing a few rounds. Just about any elbow pain associated with racket sports will be called Tennis Elbow. It comes from over using the muscles used to extend the wrist and fingers. The tendon of the extensor carpi radialis brevis is usually the culprit. The extensor muscles attach to the lateral epicondyle which is big bony prominence on the radius bone in the forearm. Put your palm up towards the ceiling and move your fingers and you will feel the extensors kick in.
When the racket hits the ball there is a kick that jolts the lateral epicondylitis pulling on the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon. This action can create micro tears weakening the insertion point resulting in serious pain and swelling. Now I have to admit that ice, rest, and Advil are probably your first course of action. Most tennis players do not like to give it an adequate resting period. The real heavy duty players will go right for cortisone injections. The injections will stop swelling but have serious side effects, like elevated blood sugar and decreased immune response. That is if they work at all! Ask your friends who have received cortisone injections if they were happy with the results.
What you can do for yourself is to try and powerful combination of therapies. Each therapy when applied together has a synergistic effect of making each modality more effective. What this means for the tennis elbow sufferer is that fast long lasting relief is obtainable. Remember when Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was shown with big round marks on his shoulders? That therapy is known as cupping. It comes Eastern Oriental medicine. It involves freeing bound muscles by pulling blood through affected muscles tissue. The extensor muscles in your forearm are dysfunctional allowing the muscle to be bound up with lactic acid. Cupping solves that nicely, even though it will leave a few marks.
Now combine cupping with cold laser therapy and you have an even more effective way to eliminate tennis elbow. Cold laser also known as low level laser is a painless modality that harness light energy to stimulate tiny cellular powerhouses called mitochondria. The mitochondria produce energy for the cell through production of ATP. To round things out when you have the forearm mobilized through chiropractic it will further reduce tension and you will have an effective three way punch that eliminates even the worse cases of tennis elbow.
