(Newswire.net — September 1, 2017) Las Vegas, NV — Today, there are quite a number of natural alternatives believed to be helpful for overall health, such as turmeric. This ancient spice is widely popularized by the phytochemical it contains called curcumin.

A lab study reveals that curcumin may be potentially beneficial for colon health. Curcumin has long been thought to be responsible for many of turmeric’s possible positive effects.

This powerful phytochemical is believed to contain anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, antibacterial, antiseptic, antibiotic, and antiviral properties.

There are many factors that contribute to the deterioration of colon health, and one is poor food choices. It is often the gastro-intestinal tract that manifests symptoms when problems start to take place. Some of these symptoms may include constipation, vomiting, blood in the stool, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, abdominal pain, incontinence, and swallowing difficulties.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reveals that in 2011, there were 51,783 Americans who succumbed to death due to colon cancer.

It is important to note that the colon is in charge of extracting water, salt, vitamins, and nutrients from food that are indigestible. This bodily organ also processes food that has been left indigested in the small intestine and eliminates waste particles from the body.

Colon malfunction may encourage the process of toxin absorption instead of elimination. When this happens, it may lead to weight gain, bloating, headaches, and chronic illnesses. It may also trigger mucus accumulation in the colon, which usually leads to the production of toxins that are poisonous to the body.

In a study presented by Molecular Nutritional Research, it was found that mice dosed with curcumin for five days achieved a decrease in colitis symptoms.

According to researchers, curcumin’s potential antioxidant properties were responsible for the positive effects. It has also been found that curcumin may offer the ability to inhibit NF-kB which is a major cellular inflammatory agent.

While there are pharmaceutical drugs available for the treatment of these conditions, it is important to remember that prevention is more beneficial to overall health. Curcumin supplements may be utilized to potentially strengthen the health and immunity of the colon.

There are those who turn to the use of turmeric powder to take advantage of the possibly beneficial effects of curcumin. However, it has been widely believed that supplements may offer even more health benefits.

One of the reasons why supplements may have greater potential in offering health benefits is due to the fact that they often contain higher doses of curcumin. This means more of the phytochemical’s agents may be delivered inside the body.
