(Newswire.net — September 19, 2017) Mathis, Texas — Henry Porretto, who is currently a consultant for the City of Mathis Police Department, has been publicly recognized by the City Manager, Michael Barrera, for his dedication to the profession of public safety, as well as the professional leadership that he has instilled upon the Mathis Police Department.

After taking the reins as the lead consultant on Dec. 21, 2015, Porretto has been busy implementing policies to help the city’s citizens and the community.  As the main mandates put forth by the City Manager are respect, courtesy and customer service, Porretto has been tirelessly working for the police department to get better in these three areas.

“We need to be courteous, we need to be respectful and when somebody calls us, even if it’s not totally a law enforcement issue, what can we do to go further than that and help.”

Apart from these three main goals, the consultant also has been working to improve the public’s image of the PD. Having always envisioned developing a positive image of the police department within the community, he has created policies and procedures to instill professionalism upon the PD and has also started management training and accountability for supervisors. In addition to all this, Porretto has been enlarging the PD’s range of help in the city wherever possible as well. To read more about Porrretto’s talk on cruise ships, continue here.

“One of my goals is to have the police department enhance the community and help rather than detract,” Porretto expressed. “You’ve got to listen to what people have to say and talk with them, not to them.”

Porretto’s degrees, decades of experience working in the law enforcement field and his title as a Certified Public Manager have given him plenty of ideas on how to not only improve the PD but also the entire city. “There’s a lot of vacant buildings here, and I think the more businesses that come here and the more vibrant the community gets the more services the city can give to its residents,” he said.

Although Porretto is determined to achieve a positive image for the PD, he also welcomes negative criticism as long as it is something that the PD earned.

“I don’t want us to have negative criticism that we didn’t earn. If we did something wrong, OK, I’m going to address that. But in the meantime, we’re trying to build an image of professionalism and we’re moving forward and we’re doing these things to help us get there.”
