(Newswire.net — October 27, 2017) — Statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse has estimated that about 23.5 million people in the US aged twelve and older are in need of rehabilitation. It goes on to state that only a small percentage of about two million people are currently undergoing rehabilitation through specialty clinics and facilities.

These numbers were taken from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and showed the drugs situation back in 2009. But it is safe to say, and unfortunately so, that the problem has not abated. This comes as incarcerations on drug-related charges as well as deaths from overdose have spiked in the last few years. As of 2015, the institute has pointed out that at least 469,545 people have been jailed while 52,404 more have died from overdose.

It is against this backdrop that the US needs to address the drugs problem through political means. While funding such institutions as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Agency remains as an essential component in curbing the illegal drugs trade, the federal and state governments also have to provide more effective solutions on treating addiction and reintegrating addicts into society.

In this sense, drug rehab centers (whether government-funded or privately owned) should go hand-in-hand with enforcement. Addiction should always be tackled more as a health issue and not exclusively as a law and order issue which most people seem to believe.

Now, more than ever, families and friends are looking towards rehabilitation as a more viable and practical way to safeguard their loved ones from the heavier effects of addiction and allow them to lead normal lives. This will only be possible when there is access to treatment facilities that blend scientific approaches to drug addiction with a more human touch such as treatment center Georgia.

Finding the best rehab centers in your state shouldn’t take you forever.  The most basic thing you need to look in a drug rehab center is the equipment needed that aims to tackle addiction through realistic and applicable methods.

For sure, you need to find a rehab center that takes into account all the factors that play into the development and prevalence of addiction itself. This involves intervening in the lifestyle of an addict and providing alternative activities that will distract the addict from the severe symptoms of withdrawal.

What’s more, such rehab centers should always emphasize the need to implement a more scientific and methodical approach to mitigating the effects of addiction. Treatment plans provided by these centers should be based on recent literature on the sociology and the psychology of addiction. They should also include the right processes recommended by notable health institutions and organizations.

Lastly, treatment centers should offer effective rehab programs that involve an addict’s friends and family. Being an extensive process that involves much emotional and physical toil, rehabilitation requires an addict’s loved ones to intervene and provide support in what can be a difficult time.

With that said, rehabilitation is still an important factor in minimizing the effects of the drugs problem to society. And this is because of the fact that addicts can change and will still be able to contribute through their talents that have been kept in the dark by illegal substances.
