World Health Organization Supports Breastfeeding

(Newswire.net — November 30, 2017) Cheyenne, Wyoming — Breastfeeding has been practiced from the beginning of time but since mankind has been so much more modernized, nursing has become less and less common, particularly in the more developed regions of the world. As such the World Health Organization (WHO) has made it their mission to promote the most nutritious and natural source of milk for infant holding firm to the notion that breast is best.

This advice is made based on empirical evidence showing that breastfeeding is absolutely essential for the first six months of a baby’s life and should be offered exclusively during that period to support healthy growth and development, after which nutrient rich solid foods ought to be introduced alongside continued suckling for up to 2 years old or older if desired.

While delivering ample nourishment, breast milk is the first form of immunization an infant receives as it’s full of antibodies that guard against a variety of illnesses including pneumonia and diarrhea which are the leading causes of death among children globally.

The benefits of breastfeeding to babies are obvious to the initiated mind but lesser known is how beneficial it is for nursing mothers as well. The emotional bonding involved alleviates the chance of postpartum depression, the lactation process lessens the probability of developing type II diabetes while ovarian and breast cancer risks are greatly diminished. And as a bonus, exclusive breastfeeding impacts the mother’s hormones in ways similar to birth control pills, though this method is not fool-proof, it’s a welcomed advantage.

The antibodies produced in breast milk have been mentioned before but it bears repeating since infant formulas simply cannot compete. Furthermore, since breast milk is made entirely by nature, there is not even a chance of tampering with its balance or messing things up, whereas on the other hand, preparing infant formula is almost like playing Russian roulette.

Everything is a safety concern to watch out for when handling infant formula, from unclean water, contaminated bottle nipples and bacteria tainted powder to the risk of over-concentrating or over-diluting, both of which can lead to nutrient deficiencies.

As great as breast milk is, by the time babies reaches 6 months, their diet needs to be supplemented by solid foods which should be gradually introduced alongside continued suckling. This is not to say breast milk is no longer needed or that a nursing mother can then begin consuming alcohol in high quantities since feeding sessions will only be reduced.

According to the medical research paper Human Milk Composition: Nutrients and Bioactive Factors published by U.S. National Library of Medicine “attention to maternal diet is important for some vitamins and the fatty acid composition of human milk.”

Every mother wants the best for her baby. Every mother also wants to enjoy life, perhaps even unwind guilt-free with a pint beer or a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc every now and again within moderation.

Testing the alcohol content level of one’s breast milk after a drink is a wise and responsible approach to ensuring that all the alcohol in the blood stream is fully metabolized before resuming feeds and the PureMilk™ Breast Milk Alcohol Detecting Strips by HealthyWiser™ provides exactly that information with 99.9% certainty within seconds.
