AgroAmerica, a sustainable agriculture company that grows, processes and distributes troical fruit and vegetableb oil, was named a finalist in the National Export Award at a gala dinner held at the Hotel Camino Real in Guatemala this month. Finalists were chosen in three categories: manufacturing, agricultural and aquaculture-fishing, and services. The companies who made the cut were chosen for their innovation and transformation, as well as their commitment and leadership.

The National Export Award highlights the work Guatemalan companies have done in the last three years to deliver excellent products and services to the demanding tastes of consumers in 159 countries. The criteria for judging these finalists were: expansion, added value, products or services, export product innovation, social responsibility, sustained growth in exports and talent development. Additionally, this year’s award recognizes export entrepreneurship and rural entrepreneurship.

The finalists in the Agriculture and Fishing Sector were:
AgroAmerica: A leader in socially responsible and environmentally sustainable agriculture practices. AgroAmerica has operations in Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Europe and the United States, which is their main export market. The company produces and exports bananas, banana puree and vegetable oils. In order to minimize organic waste and optimize the use of fruit, they process the banana to transform it into aseptic puree used as raw material in food industries.
Foragro: Provides insecticides, fungicides and herbicides for the protection of crops, a fundamental role in the development of crops for the export of products abroad.
Paraiso Springs: They farm whole tilapia and fresh fillet that is exported to the rest of the world. It has the four-star Best Aquaculture Practices certification from the Global Alliance for Aquaculture.
