( — January 3, 2018) Orlando, FL — Having a sedentary lifestyle has long been known to cause some undesirable and even fatal health consequences. However, it appears that for individuals with certain conditions, the consequences of being physically inactive are alarming.

A sedentary lifestyle could potentially aggravate arthritis. A sedentary lifestyle means resting or sitting most of the time. According to experts, people should make an effort to move around more often or at least hourly, on a daily basis.

Being sedentary may increase one’s risk of developing various conditions, such as obesity, which has long been linked with the onset of many health conditions. For individuals with arthritis, pain, stiffness and other symptoms could be a normal part of their daily lives. These symptoms hinder many arthritis sufferers from becoming physically active.

There are even those who are unable to walk or climb the stairs due to pain. There could be quite a number of reasons why arthritis sufferers would prefer to stay sedentary. Arthritis sufferers often have difficulties balancing rest and activity. There are those who struggle with chronic pain and who find it difficult or even impossible to stay active.

It is important to understand that pain is one of the major reasons why many arthritis sufferers are less active, which has long been known to increase pain.

It can’t be denied that there are arthritis sufferers who know how disadvantageous it is to live a sedentary lifestyle. However, it is also worth mentioning that many of them find it hard to know exactly what the right amount of activity is.

Scott J. Zashin, MD, rheumatologist, explained that for individuals with arthritis, feeling better may easily be achieved by simply living a sedentary lifestyle. However, this “feel good” effects are temporary.

For instance, it is common for individuals with severe arthritis to suffer from less pain after a few days of hospitalization. A sedentary lifestyle may provide some temporary relief. However, it may eventually lead to obesity as well as increased pain, especially in the weight-bearing joints such as the knees and hips.

It has further been thought that arthritis sufferers who are inactive are more prone to experiencing depression, which is usually linked with increased fatigue and pain.

Dr. Zashin added that engaging in physical activity may offer some positive effects, such as reduced body weight, better sleep and improved mood. All of these positive effects have been known to improve arthritis pain.

It may be extremely helpful for arthritis sufferers to engage in regular exercise. If it appears to be extremely difficult to do, then it is best that they look for an exercise partner.

Engaging in regular physical activities may be difficult or even impossible due to pain, stiffness and other symptoms. There are arthritis sufferers who turn to the use of pain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

NSAIDs are helpful, but their use has been linked with side effects. Arthritis sufferers may stay away from the sedentary lifestyle trap by simply using a safer alternative such as glucosamine.

Glucosamine supplements have been thought to be helpful in repairing cartilage damage and reducing arthritis pain. This natural alternative has long been believed to a powerful joint health enhancing supplement.

The use of this natural alternative has also been associated with other potential health benefits.
