(Newswire.net — January 10, 2018) New York, New York — Shawn James is scheduled to perform at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival at ASCAP’s Music Cafe in Park City, Utah on January 22 and 23 at 2:45 p.m. each day.

The 20th annual Sundance ASCAP Music Café – running during the daytime from January 19-26 – presents a vibrant roster of renowned and emerging artists and songwriters, specially curated by ASCAP for the Sundance Film Festival.

Born in Chicago in 1986, singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist Shawn James discovered the power of soul in music he experienced while growing up on the south side. His blend of blues, folk and soul music is full of contrasts – dark and light, anger and joy, earthy and airborne – while remaining gritty and real.

Since releasing his first album in the fall of 2012, his music has reached millions of people. His songs have been featured on CBS, HBO and most recently in Sony Playstation’s trailer for their upcoming blockbuster game The Last of Us 2. In 2017 Raleigh Music Group, a NY based music publishing company, signed Shawn to a worldwide music publishing deal.

Shawn James brings extreme passion to his music. You feel it in the imaginative, highly nuanced songwriting and see it in the powerful live shows where there’s never the slightest hesitation and nothing is held back. And, most importantly, you can hear it resonate in Shawn’s most powerful instrument: the unique, soulful voice that sounds like it is literally being torn out of his heart…and it is something you won’t soon forget.

“…sparse, solemn, acoustic based songs, classic gothic Americana really, with a strong natural and mythological bent…in James we have a singer who can strip paint from the walls with his enormous, wounded bull roar…” – This Is Not aScene

“Shawn James has soul. It’s in the haunting baritone that rises from deep within him. It’s in the way his guitar pick hits the strings, a little hard, a little soft, but always complementing the song. It’s a musical style he’s been shaping since his childhood, singing from the church pew.” – Idle Class Mag

“…brilliantly compelling…” –Maximum Volume Music Blog

The Sundance ASCAP Music Café will be located at Rich Haines Galleries (751 Main Street, Park City, UT) and is open to all Festival credential holders (21 and older). Performances begin each day at 2:00 p.m. Featured performers at the 2018 Sundance ASCAP Music Café include: Shawn James, Madison Cunningham, Dark Rooms, Darren Criss, Jordan Davis, Brett Dennen, Ben Dickey & Charlie Sexton (from the film Blaze), Elliot Root, Michael Franti, Ethan Gruska, Mr Hudson, Anthony Ramos, Ruelle, Striking Matches, Benyaro, Lakeith Stanfield (from the film Sorry to Bother You), Samora Pinderhughes, The Score and NewSong Competition winner Crys Matthews
