(Newswire.net — April 26, 2018) Springville, Utah — Careerwize, a Utah-based online education company is helping fill the ever growing shortage of clinical and administrative jobs in the US Healthcare industry. According to David Jensen, CEO of Careerwize, “the booming US economy and low unemployment across many industries is especially being felt in the US Healthcare market”. This combined with the growth in the consumption of healthcare services, in part, brought on by an aging “baby boomer” population, estimated to represent 76 million people.

“Baby Boomers are now entering their 70’s and 80’s and are seeing doctors and being admitted to hospitals more than any other time in their lives. This has created the perfect storm”, says Jensen.

According to Jensen, who sits on an educational board, said that representatives from two leading health systems, indicated that “they have a backlog for over 500 medical assistants. “The same thing is true in the field of medical coding”, he adds. This is something Jensen knows something about. He was the Founder of Aviacode, one of the fastest growing medical coding companies in the USA.

“There is a real need for experienced and well trained medical coders and they are in short supply”, said Jensen.

This is in part, why the US Department of Labor Statistics (US-DOL) recently ranked “medical coding” as one of the top 5 job opportunities in the USA, and said that the number of jobs in medical coding field will grow by 22% by 2020 according to the US-DOL report.

In order to help meet this demand, Jensen began talking to some of the leading medical coding companies and hospitals that hire coders, asking them to partner with Careerwize in delivering high quality, tested medical coders. Jensen also began finding out exactly what medical specialties and types of coders were needed most. Careerwize began directing its students into the areas of coding that their corporate partners needed most. He invited the Careerwize corporate partners to help sponsor scholarships to qualifying candidates interested in a career in medical coding.

“The success has been overwhelming … this has been a real win-win relationship”, said Jensen. The corporate partners get to see more qualified candidates in the areas they need the most, but it also helps reduce the educational costs for Careerwize students interested in a career in medical coding.”

Some Careerwize students have been able to subsidize as much as 50% of the cost of their tuition and books covered as a result of the corporate scholarship program. One new Careerwize student said, “Without the Careerwize corporate partner scholarship, I would never have been able to start my career path as a medical coder”. The corporate partners scholarship program is bringing lots of new candidates who are better prepared certified coders to the companies and hospitals who need them most.

Recipients of Careerwize scholarships aren’t being guaranteed employment with any given corporate partner, but they are being guaranteed an interview, job assessment and a front row to submitting their resume, credentials and documented evidence of the specialized training they have in various medical specialties and types of coding. Careerwize is currently focusing specialized training in over a dozen of the most in demand types of medical coding.

“We are placing over 97% of all our graduates directly into the workforce upon graduation and this I attribute to our state-of-the-art course content, interactive learning management system and integrated virtual internship, known as Chartwize”, said Jensen.

Careerwize allows students to obtain specific documented and verifiable skills in various medical specialties and high-demand types of medical coding. For example, there is a big demand for certified medical coders to perform “hierarchal condition coding”, or HCC coding, wherein a certified Coder examines a patient’s historical clinical data to find certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, etc. Identifying such conditions in a patient’s history is extremely valuable to a health plan that is obligated to care for a given patient population.  Careerwize says it expects to announce some of their new Corporate Scholarship Partners in the next two weeks.
