(Newswire.net — April 29, 2018) — Working in a field that’s in demand and trending upward is a good way to ensure longevity. The last thing you want is to be trained in one field and then discover five years’ later that it’s no longer going to be required. The cost of retraining is considerable, so it pays to choose wisely.

Here are three jobs that have good salaries, benefits, and employment prospects in 2018 and beyond.

HVAC Technician

The HVAC Technician is a useful role for people who are naturally good with their hands, somewhat technically minded, and who like dealing with people. The role of an HVAC Technician involves meeting people at their residence to fix their heating and cooling system or to visit offices to maintain, fix or replace their HVAC systems. Being somewhat personable helps to put people at ease once arriving at their location.

The HVAC technician salary expectation is around $40,000+ initially and can rise when going through the ranks to more senior positions, including managerial ones. Ultimately, salaries top out in the $80,000-100,000 range when managing a region for a large HVAC services company. The good thing about heating and cooling is that when the system breaks down, companies have a hard time putting off dealing with the issue. As a result, there’s good security in the industry where the service cannot be outsourced abroad.

Health Care Administrator

The role of a healthcare administrator is for people who enjoy managing budgets, staff, and interdepartmental relationships. The role is one that’s behind the scenes ensuring that hospital facilities have the resources, supplies and organizational structure that’s required. These types of administrators ensure that there are efficient systems in place for doctors and nurses to do their jobs unimpeded. It gives you the chance to help in the healthcare profession, even when you are not medically talented because it’s not a patient-facing role.

There are currently over 300,000 managers working as a healthcare administrator. Salaries run the gamut from around $70,000 to over $150,000 in the most senior roles within major healthcare organizations. There’s high growth in demand expected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics due to the baby boomer generation retiring, with a matching growth in healthcare facilities required to handle it.

Network Engineer

The role of network engineer usually requires studying for a CCNA or other related qualification that’s specifically focused on network management (a Computer Science degree is often required by candidates too). Indeed, there are several Cisco certifications at different grades which open the door to higher-level positions and improving salaries as one qualifies for each new certification.

Network engineer salaries start around $55,000 and reach six figures at major employers like Cisco.  While it is possible to remotely connect to a server to resolve an issue, not every problem can be dealt with from a distance. Managing a data center typically needs many hands-on employees who know what they’re doing with the hardware and can set up the software properly. As such, the job market is pretty safe for new network engineers.

Choosing a job that won’t get outsourced or be no longer required in a few years’ time is not something most of us considered back in the day, but it’s become more important now. With the ongoing threat to jobs from globalization and the rising cost of living, employees must look ahead beyond their starting salary when considering their choice of education and employment.
